Bye Week Multi-Table Tourney

For those interested in keeping it a poker night on our bye week, this week the AKPL'ers will be taking part in one of the regularly scheduled Multi Table Tournaments on PokerRoom.com.

The tournament starts at 7:50 and the entry fee will be the same, $5+.50. Registration begins at 6:20 and is located in the "Scheduled" tab on the "Regular" sub tab in the game client.

So far I know of about six people that will be playing this week. For those playing, we will be keeping track of how everyone is doing in the AKPL chat (linked on this page).

Note: No opinions we're discussed about trying to have a "Team Prize Pool" (as mentioned in the previous posting) so as of today it will be every man takes his own winnings.

Week Four

So I'm not going to babble on about this week's tourney much because A) it's not as fun to type this crap up when you keep playing like your name was Limp Money and B) I'm having some system issues tonight so I could crash at anytime.

Another strong finish for dcm03 and FuzzyMutant who each posted their second money finish of the tournament. JAY LITT managed to get into second on top of making a required appearance at a friend's birthday party....during the middle of the tournament. Well done.

Listed below are all the results and the up to date standings:

Man Day IV

Andrew Fritts (aka wazhappninjj) puts on a great event every year and I thought it deserved some publicity.

Man Day is a great event where all domestic worries can be left behind to try and capture a few moments of the beauty that was life during college when we started drinking at noon and focused completely on sports, alcohol, gambling and good food. Ok, so this might not be a great idea for a few of you, but it's only one day right!?

The day starts off with a round of golf, the next stop is some great food for dinner (most likely a brazilian steakhouse) and then the day ends with a No Limit Hold 'Em tournament. Participation in Man Day can be in parts or total, but it stands to be a good time no matter how much you do and jj does a great job organizing everything. I believe he's even got it worked out to benefit a charity this year.

Off Weeks

Just a reminder to everyone that due to the Memorial Day and 4th of July holidays, this season features a couple of off weeks for the league.

For those who aren't lucky enough to be traveling or taking a vacation and still want to keep Wednesday night a poker night I have a suggestion: PokerRoom runs regularly scheduled multi-table tournaments and I thought we could see how well AKPL could do in one of these events. The start time for the tournament is a little earlier - 7:50pm.

There are a couple of ways we could do it:
1) Each takes there own winnings
2) Split net winnings (minus entry fee) among all AKPL'ers in the money
3) Split net winnings (minus entry fee) among all AKPL'ers in the tournament

Options #2 and #3 make it a little more interesting for the whole group and if we have a top finisher it could make it profitable for all.

Let me know if anyone is interested (via email or comments) in this tournament and if you are which of the above options you prefer. Could be fun.

Week Three

Well there wasn't quite the participation in the new chat feature that I was hoping for last night, but maybe that was because the word went out right before start time. For the few of us that did use it, it was a nice tool to be able to chat with those at the other table. Think about using it next week as we'd like to see if we can get everyone in the same place (button at the top of the left hand column).

Ok... so I'm a day late on getting the results and standings posted. I was on tilt a little from the suckout that ended my night very early from the eventual champion. For the second week in a row wazhapninjj took everyone's chips and the tournament. After talking with a few of the league members today, I believe he may have a pretty big target on his back as from the stories I heard it sounds like he drew out on more than one person when he was behind going in. We'll see what happens next week.

Lowryder007 got the shaft for the second week in a row as his bullets got busted on the river...again! That pretty much crippled his stack and he didn't last much longer.

Congrats to the other two money finishers: dcm03 in second and drsebbi in third. Each of these guys was on or near the chip stack pretty much the whole night and while getting close were unable to take down the streaking jj.

New Chat Feature

One of the biggest complaints by league members has been the fact that PokerRoom kicks you out of a tournament as soon as you bust. Preventing the ability to berate anyone that makes a crappy call and still ends up winning.

Well I was able to add a chat room feature to the site today. All you need to do is click the button at the bottom of this post (or at it's permanent location at the top of the left hand column) and a new window will appear with a box where you can enter your user name. Preference would be that you use your PokerRoom alias, but there is no authentication so you can use whatever name you type in.

Will give it a test run tonight to see how it works. Let me know what you think about it.

Week Two

The Bubble Burst!

The big story of this week's tournament: cappyuga finally placed in the money!!

After at least six separate finishes just outside of the money, cappyuga was finally able to hold on to the thread just enough to make it into 3rd place and take home a little something with his points this week. Well done cappy and congratulations!

We've had some continued success by our rookies as 2PairKiller found his way into 2nd place. The eventual winner of a long heads up battle was wazhapninjj. Not a bad matchup to watch with wazhapninjj definitely the aggressor that both gave him his win, but also some scary moments. His aggression repeatedly build up his chip stack, but just when it looked like he would seal the deal, 2PairKiller would find his hand and grab the lead back. After at least seven or eight lead changes, pocket 9's bested out an A9 and the winner was declared.

I'm sure mjb0707 expected to be in the money as he took a bad river against the eventual winner that would have not only given him a pretty large chip lead, but also would have knocked out wazhapninjj somewhere around 5th position. If only cards could be stopped after the turn.

I'm sure drsebbi is happy I finished just outside the money after all the flack I dished out to him for finishing 4th last week. Wait a second...oh yeah he finished 5th this week. Sorry seb! (I know, I know, I finished behind you in 6th)

Finally...there was a lotta buzz at the beginning of the match from Limp Money about being able to get free chips from someone at his table tonight. Unfortunately Limp turned out to be the donator as he took a home a solid 18th place finish.

Overall it seemed to be much tighter play tonight as the one "Away" person only managed 12th position. We're still looking to get a full field as we were one man short again. Maybe we can pull it all together for Week 3.

Juiced AKPL'er?

While this message was originally intended for the mass of steroids out in San Francisco, one has to wonder if our rookie winner used a little something extra to get his victory this past week.

How did he come about his "FuzzyMutant" nickname? Was it a result of something frequently injected into his ass that gave him a mutant like appearance and a clairvoyant presence at the poker table? How else could his undefeated record be explained??

Week One

Well the season got underway tonight with 19 of the 20 league members getting signed up. Funny all the rookies made it in, but one of the veterans missed out.

This first big donkey play of the night came from yours truly. After dcm03 had been 'Away' for about 30 minutes he returned to double up and take me out right away. Thanks you sir, may I have another! I for some insane reason decided to call dcm's all-in with my TPTK. What!?!? I was obviously beat and it was a flopped set that i ran into. Onto next week!

All the regular season money winners from last season seemed to go out early (tmanders10=19, mjb0707=16, Limp Money=15). Definitely not a shining moment.

A point was proved by wazhapninjj tonight who couldn't play in the tourney, but registered to try to get a good finishing place. With the new rule in effect and withouth playing a single hand he was able to make the final table and finish in 9th place.

I'm sorry to report that cappyuga has continued his bubbly ways and finished just on the wrong side once again in 5th place. Keep grinding cappy...it will come.

The final four of this one was a long, boring, no-ball having fold fest with blinds basically being traded back and forth for about 30 minutes (easy for me to say from the gallery). Finally Lowryder007 grew a pair and called drsebbi's all-in and even though sebbi caught his ace on the flop, Lowryder007 spiked his straight on the turn and sent sebbi to the rail in 4th.

Congrats to the leading candidate for rookie of the year, FuzzyMutant. He fought back as the short stack with 4 remaining and took home the win in his very first tournament with AKPL. Is it beginner's luck or is the guy a player? Time will tell.

Below are the finishing positions for the week. I won't be posting the full season standings chart until week three, but you'll be able to see the Top 5 at the top of the right column on this page.
