Ready to Go: May 3rd

Just an FYI for all the league members, the first tournament has been created and is ready to go in the 'Private Tournament' lobby in the Poker Room game client. Register at will and bring your Wicked Chops to the virtual tables to see how well you match up.

It's no Friday in Vegas, but it's all we've got here in the Bible belt. Good luck to everyone and avoid getting Pot Committed unless you look down at your pocket cards and see Double A's.

(as if you couldn't tell I added a bunch of Poker Blogs to the left side of the page)

Fold or Call?

Here's a situation I was in last night in a multi-table tournament. I'm curious as to what you would have done.

I was middle stacked (about $7000) with 180 of the 411 players left when I was dealt KcQs on the button with blinds at 200-400. There was a minimum raise to 800 from an early position player, a call from a mid position player and a call from me and the big blind.

The flop came QcJc10c so I'm now holding top pair, straight draw, flush draw (not the nut flush) and straight flush draw (the nut flush). Overall not a bad flop.

The raiser throws out another minimum bet that is called by the MP player, but is three times raised by me. The BB folds, but my raise is called by both the EP and MP players.

Here comes the Qh on the turn. A card that definitely improves my hand as I'm now holding a set of ladies, but doesn't necessarily improve hands of the others unless they flopped a set of Js or 10s (to give them a boat). This also now adds the possibility of drawing to a boat on top of my straight flush draw.

The betting for this starts with a bang as the early position player goes all in (about $7500) and to my surpise the MP player calls with the last of his stack ($4500). At this point I'm thinking the EP player definitely flopped a straight or flush. I've only got about $4800 left and there is s huge pot going on that could allow me triple up and be one of the big stacks (if not the chip leader).

The hand could make a huge difference when coming to the end of the tourney and (assuming the EP player has the nut flush) I've got eleven outs that will win me the pot.

-Do you call or fold with all your chips?
-Would your decision be different if the MP player had not called the all-in also?

Leave your comments, let me know what you think.

Fresh Blood - AKPL Rookies

Registration for Season II wrapped up today and we're welcoming five rookies into the competition: Chris Robinson, Mark Robinson, Mark Koch, Eric Goldklang, and Don Fredeman.

Many of you will remember Chris Robinson as Limp Money's fill in during the final tournament as he had a strong showing, finishing in 5th place. He also brings along his brother Mark, who I've known through soccer for quite some time. While he's known by many of his friends as Frog, we'll be calling him the "FuzzyMutant" at the virtual tables.

We've added a couple of Home Depot associates to the mix to replace the ones that dropped out last season. First is Don Fredeman. Don is now on his second tour with Home Depot. He got deported to Australia a few years back* and somehow got passed Homeland Security and managed to get back in the country. Next is Mark Koch, who I've never had the opportunity to work with at HD, but am welcoming the opportunity to take his money (or give him mine...either one).

*completely made up

And our final rookie is Eric Goldklang, who comes referred from Mark K. I could try to make up something "funny" to say about Eric, but let's face it: I don't know anything about Eric and this crap I write isn't really funny anyway.

Cheers.
Note: The first AKPL tournament (May 3rd) has already been created and is in the Private Tournament Lobby. The password for the tournament will be mailed out as soon as I have all the player nicknames for the rookies.
